About

Hello, my lovely guests and readers. My name is Rachael Thomas, and I’m here to share my lifelong love of geological studies.

This blog is dedicated to one of my greatest passions: volcanoes. It is my way of telling stories about some of the things that interest me most, my place to babble about all the things I’ve learned over the years that are still buzzing around my head.

As an English major, it may seem a peculiar partnering of literature and earth sciences. As I dove deeper into my studies of both areas, the line separating the arts from science blurred. The sudden understanding of Earth’s early life was revolutionary in my understanding of the subject, a feeling familiar and often found in profound and moving poetry or essays. To me, the art of learning was reinvigorated as I explored more of the world than English and American literature and poetry.

This blog is my way of finally blending my two worlds into one continuous seam of exploration, curiosity, and pure science.

  1. I am always in awe of your writing, and this blog is no exception. I love how you’ve painted a picture and explained the “techie” language of geology. I still see you excited about all the wonderful rocks and minerals to be found at Lassen. I can’t wait to read your next I installment.
